Mattia Biagi
In 2001 Biagi moved to LA from Italy. Upon his arrival he was inspired by the La Brea Tar Pits. He was entranced by the texture of the tar but also with the contrast of this prehistoric, primordial material existing within a modern, urban environment. Within his works, Biagi has a strong connection to childhood objects, musical instruments and methods of transport, with his trademark being the teddy bear. His work stimulates the viewer to look at the objects surrounding all of us in a new light, in doing this he creates a visual record of modern culture encapsulated and suspended in time.
